Thomas Ryckewaert is a Belgian writer, director and actor. He studied biology at KU Leuven and dramatic arts at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp. Since then, his work has unfolded at the intersection of these disciplines.

His work draws on science, science fiction and horror, and is driven by a fascination with non-human scales and agencies that resist intuition – from microbes to AI, from black holes to vampires.

His immersive works emerge from extended research processes developed in close collaboration with scientists and artists from different disciplines. These take the form of theatre productions, lecture performances, site-specific works and hybrids.

His work has been presented at venues including deSingel, Monty, Kaaitheater, Beursschouwburg, VierNulVier, S.M.A.K., STUK, Théâtre La Balsamine (BE), de Brakke Grond (NL), Southbank Centre (UK), Åbo Svenska Theater (FI) and Hebbel am Ufer (DE).

Alongside his artistic practice, he works as an actor in theatre, film and television, and regularly teaches and mentors emerging artists.
