TRAUM
2007
There are places where the notion of “human” begins to waver.
Where rules appear clear, yet everything derails.
Organised absurdity.
Logical madness.
How do you tell what is barely conceivable?
How do you give language to something that undermines language itself?
TRAUM draws on the writings of Primo Levi, Jean Améry, and Jorge Semprun — voices that sought to describe the unimaginable. Their work forms the basis of Thomas Ryckewaert’s directorial debut.
Nightmares of depraved sleepers. (..) A dream of a nightmare, you could call it. It’s hard to say afterwards what you have seen. But one thing is sure: it grabs you by your throat. – De Morgen
